Last week I had the blessing to be the resource person for Camp Omega. One of the things I did
was have time to answer questions from the children and they had fantastic questions. One of the
questions was “Did people go through different things in the Bible then we do?” So I thought
that it was a good question for our news letter.
Before the birth of Moses the Egyptian Pharaoh was afraid of the children of Israel. They
had grown exceedingly and prospered in the land of Egypt. He feared that if they were to side
with his enemies, so he put the children of Israel under hard slavery. However the children of
Israel continued to grow with the blessings of God. The Pharaoh then decreed that the male
children who were born to the Israelites were to be cast into the Nile River (Exodus 1:22).
During this time the Children of Israel cried out to God for salvation from the Egyptians. In
comparison the Children of the New Testament were also crying out to God to send the One who
was promised from the beginning to redeem the children of Israel. King Herod feared the child
prophesied to become the King of Israel. He ordered all male children two and under to be killed
(Matthew 2:16-18). The goal of Satan and his followers is to cause the fall of the children of
God. This has not changed for us today. We are persecuted by this world in many ways. The
World continues to put limitations on us to spread the Gospel of Christ. We are killed in many
countries and also put in jail. On Christmas most workers can’t say Marry Christmas. Jesus has
come into this world to save us. He leads us out of bondage to everlasting life through Him.
Through the Son of God were the children of Israel saved and through the Son of God are we
saved. Looks the same and it is the same.

Have you ever taken time to read from Proverbs? It is also known as the book of Wisdom. I myself am a big movie buff and have seen many movies portray wisdom in a person high on top of a mountain. Or in books someone who is far off and you must go through many dangers, climb high mountains face impossible odds to get your deep questions answered. These make for fun viewing and reading but in a way we all have those questions we would like to know the answer. Well you don’t have to climb high mountains or go through alligator infested waters to have your answers given to you…. Or maybe you do, depending on where you put your Holy Bible. Well dig out your flash light and put on your anti-shark repellent and bravely go where KNOW ONE HAS GONE BEFORE… I hope it’s not in your son or daughters room because you may not make it out. Let us take a moment to pray for all who must enter “O DEAR GOD…” back to the point. The Book of proverbs has great and wonderful insight in our daily lives so that we may live in the light of Christ. Here are some.

Proverbs 1:7-8 (ESV)

[7] The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

[8] Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, Proverbs 30:24-28 (ESV)

[24] Four things on earth are small, but they are exceedingly wise:

[25] the ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;

[26] the rock badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the cliffs;

[27] the locusts have no king, yet all of them march in rank;

[28] the lizard you can take in your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces.

Food for thought.

Beloved in the Lord,

Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV)

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, [2] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

The Lord our God has spoken to us faithfully through the last century here at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He has blessed us with His faithfulness through His Word and His Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. The love of our Lord has been passed down from generation to generation. He has given us His Son that we have forgiveness of sins and eternal life. What can we, as children of God, say but Amen.

The Lord will always be that Faithful.

Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit from eternity have always planned to redeem the children of this world. The Father has sent His only begotten Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to die upon the cross so that we may be washed and forgiven by His Body and Blood of all our sins. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us and gives us Faith so that we can spread the Gospel in which He gives Faith to others.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

My prayer is that if the Lord in His great Wisdom deems to give us another century at St. Paul Lutheran Church may we continue in His loving work.

Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

God enable us to will and to do this faithful and loving work and with His Grace fulfill what we are unable to do.

Your Servant in Christ,

This year we are planning a mission trip to Nicaragua to help finish building a Church. The date for the trip is June 27 to July 5. We have fundraising events planned to help offset the cost of the trip for those who want to go. This is a great opportunity for St. Paul and our sister Waseca Circuit Churches to gather together and serve the Lord. Below is some of the information about the trip. If you want to go or would like to donate to the trip please call St. Paul Church 507 835 2647
Dates: Flexible – teams can discuss potential dates with LHM. Optimal time is approx 7‐8 days. Teams must arrive in Managua by 3PM at the latest.
Individual Budget: Based on 7 days approx. $530 – This includes food, lodging, in‐country transportation, translators and travel/health insurance. This is an estimated cost and does not include international flights and is based on a team of 10 people.
Materials for Project: $4,500. This includes materials, tools and paint for the project, administration costs, and the cost of hiring a local construction worker to help coordinate the project.
Church Work Project
The LHM ministry center in Nicaragua – Cristo Para Todas Las Naciones (CPTLN) or Christ for All Nations, shares words of comfort and hope in Christ with people who have been battered by natural disasters, that endure difficult economic circumstances and that currently have a high unemployment problem. Providing a message of hope with people in these times allows the spread of the Gospel in Nicaragua. A team is needed to install new windows and doors in a church in Granada, Nicaragua. The local Lutheran pastor has asked for our help in finishing the church building. The congregation has had to stop construction due to lack of funds but is still using the building. A team is needed to install new windows and doors in a church in Granada, Nicaragua. The local Lutheran pastor has asked for our help in finishing the church building. The congregation has had to stop construction due to lack of funds but is still using the building for worship and community activities. Adding windows and doors and doing some painting will help finish the building and allow items to be locked in the church safely. The team will complete this project with help of a professional construction worker and some local church volunteers.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1. Arrival, orientation and rest
Day 2. Workday
Day 3. Worship and sightseeing
Day 4. Workday
Day 5. Workday
Day 6. Workday
Day 7. Outreach activity
A detailed itinerary will be customized and provided to you by LHM according your travel days and team size.
Lodging & Meals
The team will be staying at the Alhambra Hotel in Granada, Nicaragua. Granada is Nicaragua’s fourth most populous city and capital of the Granada Department. Granada is historically one of Nicaragua’s most important cities both economically and politically. It is situated on the northwestern shore of Lake Cocibolca and was founded by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba on December 8, 1524. It has a rich colonial heritage, seen in its architecture and layout. Granada is commonly nicknamed the “Gran Sultana del Gran Lago” ‐ the Great Sultan of the Great Lake. All hotels are air‐conditioned and provide cleans sheets and towels. The team will eat their meals at a choice of local restaurants.
Sightseeing
The team can visit Lago De Nicaragua (Lake Nicaragua) which is the largest of several freshwater lakes in southwestern Nicaragua and the dominant physical feature of the country; it is also the largest lake in Central America. The lake is also apparently one of the only freshwater lakes that contain sharks. Taking a boat trip in not included in the budget but can be arranged.
Budget
Costs for Global Work & Witness teams are split into ‘Individual Costs’, which is your food, lodging, transportation, etc., and your ‘Project Costs’, which is the cost of the materials for the actual project you participate on. Whether it is a VBS or a construction project we ask that your team cover these costs as a group. Sample budget of Individual Costs based on 10 people traveling 7/8 days:
Based on team of 10 people
Insurance 8 days @ $2.75 $22.00
Lodging 7 nights @ $40 (based on double occupancy – includes buffet breakfast) $280.00
Meals 7 days @ $12 $84.00
Entry tax $5.00
Bottled Water Approx $5 per day $35.00
Transportation Daily use of bus ‐ incl. Gas and driver $84.00
Translators $20.00
Pass Port Costs – 150.00 a person (Need to have for the trip)
Total $680.00
Recommendations or Requirements for Vaccine‐Preventable Diseases Routine, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A or Immune globulin (IG), Routine
You must also budget for your international flights, sightseeing, and souvenirs.
The budget is estimated and your team may choose to eat a little more expensive or a little cheaper meals, which would obviously affect your budget. We tend to try and over budget as much as possible so you do not run short of funds but it never hurts to have some extra funds available. It would also be wise to carry a small amount of additional contingency funds for any medical emergencies that may occur or unexpected costs.
Project Costs for this project is $4,500. This includes materials and paint for the project, administration costs, and the cost of hiring a local construction worker to help coordinate the project.
Insurance Coverage
Medical evacuation for all team members is mandatory and LHM provide insurance from AIG at the cost of $2.75 a day. We will provide you with an insurance card with a policy number on it and a contact number in cases of extreme emergency – i.e. something that requires evacuation. The person you talk with will advise you on what to do in those circumstances. For all other claims please pay any bills that you incur and make a claim directly to the insurance company when you return.

I would ask all to pray for this trip that God would Bless all of us through this mission.

We know and have been taught that it is by Grace through Faith that we are saved, and this is most certainly true. Faith and Faith alone saves you as we see in the reading of Ephesians.
Ephes. 2:8-10 (ESV)
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
If we look to our good deeds as the reason for our salvation then we fall deadly short of the Glory of God. Then what do we say of verse 10 of Ephesians and to James2:14-18?
[10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
James 2:14-18 (ESV)
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? [15] If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, [16] and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? [17] So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. [18] But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Faith and good works stand together as seen in the reading of both texts. Faith is never apart from good works and neither can good works be apart from Faith. Our lives are lives of a servant. We at all times walk in the Grace of Christ who served us all the way to the cross and the grave. He did not stop short of death but gave up his spirit to save us so that we do not die. So what is the good work we do? How do we walk in Faith and not in our good works? The deeds we do and the words we speak are always in the light of Christ. The works we do are because Jesus has given us His faith freely so we freely do for others without expecting anything in return. We do good works because Jesus has loved us in His good work of salvation. Good works are anything done for others in times of need, times of love and in and out of every season. So a good question for us; are we living in Faith? The answer is not from you but in others around us. Love one another as Christ Jesus has loved us.
