ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.  Radio Broadcast: The broadcast is dedicated to the glory of God and given in loving memory of Elmer Ziegler and sponsored by Dave Ziegler.

2.  Lutheran Hour:  The Lutheran Hour can be heard on radio stations KJLY, Blue Earth, 104.5 FM, Sunday, 6:00 PM and KDHL, Faribault, 920 AM, Sunday, 6:00 PM.

3.  Preparing for Holy Communion:  It is good and right to always be prepared to receive Holy Communion. To do this, please allow a moment before the singing of the communion hymns while the organist plays a musical arrangement to pray. Prayers are located in the front cover and back cover of your hymnal for such purposes. We are now offering both individual cup and the common cup on both sides.  Because of this it will not be necessary for people to have to cross over.  Everything else will stay the same.

4. Sunday School: On this Transfiguration Sunday, the Sunday School students have studied the story of “The Transfiguration.” In the Transfiguration, we see Jesus as the pure and holy Son of God, whose perfect righteousness is given to us through God’s Word and Sacraments. Parents could ask, “What did Jesus reveal to His disciples about Himself in the Transfiguration? What does God’s Word reveal to us about Jesus?”

5.  Parish Paper:  The deadline for the March Parish Paper is Monday, February 20th.

6.  Offering Envelopes:  You may pick up your 2012 offerings in the back of the church. They will be in the church office after Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22nd.

7.  29 er’s:  The next meeting is Wednesday, February 22 at 12:00 Noon.  Catered Meal-Hot turkey sandwiches, vegetable soup, salad, pie, and coffee.  $6.00 per plate.  Call by February 19 to Judy Deling at 685-2100 or Judie Waters at 835-7414.  Devotions by Pastor Zimmer.

8.  Ash Wednesday:  Ash Wednesday this year is February 22nd.  Thrivent will serve the first of the Lenten suppers from 4:30 -5:45 p.m.  The Mentoring Program will begin that evening with a meeting at 5:30 p.m.  Ash Wednesday Divine Service will begin at 6:00 p.m.  There will be NO 6,7,8 Catechism classes that night because of the Ash Wednesday services.  All are invited to take part in all these activities as we begin the Lenten Season.

9.  Lenten Supper:  The Lenten Suppers will begin with Thrivent serving on February 22, Ash Wednesday from 4:30 -5:45 p.m.  The menu will be hamburgers, potato salad, cake, and beverages.

10.  Mentoring:  The Board of Evangelism will be providing the mentoring program during this coming Lenten season. All the students in the Catechism classes are asked to take part in this.  The mentor can be any member of the congregation who is confirmed and not an immediate family member(brother, sister, or parent).  The mentoring books will be handed out at the first Lenten supper on Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at a short informational meeting.  The mentors and students will talk about the sermon text at the Lenten supper and then attend the church service together, the mentors are also invited to attend the catechism class at least one time with their student.  This is being done to help our students and older members get to know each other and to help them learn how to talk about their faith with someone else.  Please consider doing this if one of our students asks you to be a mentor.

11.  Radio Broadcasts:  The Ash Wednesday Service will NOT be broadcast over the radio, but beginning with the Lenten Vesper Services on February 29th at 6:00 p.m. through March 28th the Vesper Services will be broadcast over the radio.  (Maundy Thursday which is at 6:00 p.m. will be on the radio as well.)

12.  Board of Elders Sheets:  You may pick up the Board of Elders Picture sheets with the responsibility lists.  They are at the entrances of the church.

13.  Pork Chop Dinner:  Tickets for the March 4th Pork Chop Dinner put on as a fundraiser by the quilters will be sold before and after the worship services for the following two Sundays, February 19 & 26.  You may purchase your ticket by the elevator or at the north end of the church in the narthex.

14.  Annual Reports:  You may pick up an annual report at any of the entrances of church.

15.  Scrip:  Scrip, our ongoing fundraiser for Little Lambs’ Childcare, will be sold in the Fireside Room today since tickets for the Quilters’ pork chop meal are being sold at the table by the elevator.  Thanks for supporting this mission of our church.

17.  Saturday Morning Breakfasts:  The fourth Saturday of each month the men of our church go to Pheasant Café for breakfast and fellowship and the women of our church go out for breakfast too, at ‘Out to Lunch’.  This month it falls on the 25th . The time will be 7:45 a.m. for both groups.  We are happy to say, there are some couples that go to each place and this seems to be more convenient to have this at the same time.

18.  “Take Time” A Book of Meditations:  These books are available for sale in the church office.  This book is written by Rev. Raymond Harms and the price is $29.99.  The checks may be made out to Take Time or Rev. Raymond Harms.

19.  Senior High Youth Retreat…if you are interested in attending the 9th-12th grade retreat at Camp Omega and have not yet registered….please call CVLHS, Monday, Feb. 20 at 685-2636 and leave a message to arrange for registration. The retreat will be next Sunday, Feb. 26th from 1 to 5pm. Come, enjoy an afternoon with area teens as we explore “Relationships…God, you and me”.
20.  Soup Fest 2012! Several CVLHS association churches will be hosting “Soup-Fest 2012!” within the next few weeks. Congregation members that wish to compete will be asked to make their favorite soup (at least a 4 qt crock pot), and bring it to the Soup Fest. Everyone is invited to attend. Guests ages 6 and over will pay $5.00/person and will sample each of the soups entered. All guests will then vote for their favorite soup. The two soups with the most votes will then compete at the “Soup-er Bowl” on Sunday, March 11th at Bethlehem Lutheran in Morristown from 5 to 6:30pm. Check your church bulletin for details concerning dates and times. Let’s have some fun, sample some great soups and enjoy a little competition!

5. Sunday School: The story “Jesus Heals Jairus’s Daughter” serves as the focus of Sunday School today. Just as Jesus by Word and touch raised the dead girl to life, so by His Word and Sacraments, He kills and buries death and raises us to eternal life. Questions for discussion include, “How did Jesus heal this little girl? How does Jesus heal us from the sickness of sin?”

6.  Thrivent Member Reminder:  R.S.V.P. to Kathy Flogstad at 201-2168 A.S.A.P. for member appreciation dinner February 19, 2012, American Legion, Waseca, Doors open at 11:30 a.m., eat at 12:00 noon, “Caring and Sharing” will be the entertainment.  Non-member – $10.00.  (It seems many members did not receive their postcard from the home office.)  Deadline is now February 15, 2012.

The theme for the afternoon is “Relationships…God, you and me.”  Pastor Luke Timm will be talking about issues teens deal with every day. There will also be tubing or broomball, and snacks. Invite a friend…this is sure to be a great afternoon! 5.  Sunday School: “Jesus Heals a Man Who Is Paralyzed” is the lesson for Sunday School today. The miracle of healing the paralytic confirms that Jesus, the Son of Man, has authority on earth to forgive sins and it confirms what the Son of Man chiefly came to do: deliver us and all believers from sin, death, and the power of the devil. Consider discussing, “In addition to healing the paralyzed man, what else does Jesus tell him? How has Jesus healed us from our sickness of sin?”

 

6.  Fishing Trip Group:  There will be a meeting for ‘fishing group’ on Sunday, February 5th.  It will be held in the Fireside Room after the worship service.

So Jesus came to bestow His love and eternal gifts upon us. Parents could discuss, “How did Jesus show His compassion on these little children? How does Jesus shower His compassion on us?”

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

1.  Radio Broadcast: The broadcast is dedicated to the glory of God.

 

2.  Flowers:  The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God and are given in thanks to God for the blessing that Ron Wood has been to his family.  He celebrated his 75th birthday January 19.

 

3.  Lutheran Hour:  The Lutheran Hour can be heard on radio stations KJLY, Blue Earth, 104.5 FM, Sunday, 6:00 PM and KDHL, Faribault, 920 AM, Sunday, 6:00 PM.

 

4.  Preparing for Holy Communion:  It is good and right to always be prepared to receive Holy Communion. To do this, please allow a moment before the singing of the communion hymns while the organist plays a musical arrangement to pray. Prayers are located in the front cover and back cover of your hymnal for such purposes.  Last  Sunday, January 15th, we began  offering  both individual cup and the common cup on both sides.  Because of this it will not be necessary for people to have to cross over.  Everything else will stay the same.

 

5.  Sunday School: In Sunday School today students learned the story “Jesus Calls Matthew.” We sinners rejoice, for we, too, have been called from our own pigsty of sin to dine with Jesus around His table, and to be a friend of the friend of sinners. Consider discussing, “How did Jesus call Matthew to be one of His followers? How and why does Jesus call us to follow Him?”

 

6.  Quarterly Voter’s Meeting:  The first quarterly voters meeting for 2012 will be Sunday, January 22 following our Divine Service.

 

7.  C. F. W. Walther: The Walther Series is completed. Thank you to the ones who attended.

 

8.  Offering Envelopes:  You may pick up your 2012 offerings in the back of the church.

 

9.  29 er’s Potluck Meal:  You are invited to attend the monthly get together of the 29 er’s that will meet Wednesday, January 25th.  It will begin at noon and it will be a potluck, so just bring a dish to share.

5.  Sunday School:  Today in Sunday School we study the calling of Jesus’ first disciples with “Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael.” In Jesus, access to heaven is given to all who believe. You might discuss, “How did Philip and Nathanael know that Jesus was the Christ? How do we learn that Jesus is the Christ?”

 

6.  C. F. W. Walther:  During four Sundays in January and one in February, St. Paul will be offering an education program on Pastor C. F. W. Walther and the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod at 2 PM.  Today, Sunday January 15,  we will meet from 2 to 3 at the fellowship hall of the church for the main feature film.  Everyone is welcome.  If you wish, you may bring a guest.

 

7.  Quarterly Voter’s Meeting:  The first quarterly voters meeting for 2012 will be Sunday, January 22 following our Divine Service.
